About Us

The Westside Baptist Church is an "old fashion" fundamental, independent Baptist church established in 1956 to preach the Gospel of Christ to a lost and dying world. We seek to provide a place of worship for those who still "walk in the old paths"!  Preaching the Word of God from the old King James Version of the bible is the focus of our meetings.  Singing of traditional hymns and gospel songs and spending time at an altar of prayer always prepares the heart for the preaching of God's Word.

What we believe

The Godhead

WE BELIEVE that there is only one true God, eternally existing in Three Persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19; II Cor. 13:14)

Jesus Christ

WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, is true God and true man (Jn. 1:2,14; Lk. 1:35). Jesus died on Calvary as a vicarious substitute, He was buried, rose again bodily, and ascended to the Father according to the Scriptures (I Cor. 15:3,4; Acts 1:9-11).

Holy Spirit

WE BELIEVE that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, coexistent with the Father and the Son. He is the chief agent in the conviction of sin, in regeneration, and the comfort of the believer. The Holy Spirit baptizes the believer into the Body of Christ, permanently indwells in him, and seals him in salvation for all eternity (Jn. 16:7-11; Titus 3:5; Rom. 8:1-14).

The Scriptures

WE BELIEVE in the verbal, plenary complete inspiration of the Old and New Testaments, and that God's word is true without any mixture of error. We believe the Bible to be the true center of Christian unity, and the final authority in faith and life. (II Tim. 3:16,17; Psa. 12:5,7; Prov. 30:5,6).  The Masoretic Text of the Old Testament and the Received Text of the New Testament (Textus Receptus) are those texts of the original languages we accept and use; the King James Version of the Bible is the only English version we accept and use.

Man

We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam's sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God; and that man is totally depraved, and, of himself, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:22-23; Ephesians 2:1-3, 12).

Salvation

WE BELIEVE that all who, in faith, repent of sin and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour are born again by the Holy Spirit and thus become the children of God. Salvation is a gift of God, apart from works, and based solely upon the finished work of Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:8,9; Jn. 1:12).

Eternal Security

WE BELIEVE that salvation is not only a gift of God, but that it is also sustained by the power of His Spirit in the believer. Therefore, since salvation is wholly of the Lord, we hold that the believer shall be kept by the power of God through faith into salvation (Jn. 3:16; 10:28,29).

Second Coming & Future Events

WE BELIEVE in the literal, personal, pre-millennial, pre-tribulation return of Jesus Christ for His Church. At this event the dead in Christ and living believers will be translated to meet Him in the air. At the end of the seven year tribulation, Christ will visibly descend with the saints to establish His earthly millennial kingdom. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved in Glory, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost in hell (Rev. 1:7; I Thes. 4:15-17; Rev. 21:8).

The Church

WE BELIEVE in the one true church, the Body and bride of the Lord Jesus Christ, made up of believers indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The New Testament local church is a body of baptized believers with Christ as its head, organized for worship, fellowship, and Christian service. The local church is self-governing (autonomous), and is not subject to denominations, fellowships, or creeds (Acts 2:41-47; I Cor. 11:2; 12:11,12; Eph. 1:22,23; 4:11-16).

WE BELIEVE that the two church ordinances are:1. Baptism for believers only, by immersion, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost (Matt. 28:19,20; Acts 1:5; 2:41).

2. The Lord's Supper, commemorating our Lord's death on the Cross. The elements of bread and fruit of the vine are symbolic of his broken Body and shed Blood but contain no saving or redemptive merit (Matt. 26:21-30; I Cor. 11:17,34).

Biblical Separation

WE BELIEVE all the saved are called into a life of separation from all worldly and sinful practices and alliances. This would include personal, marital, and ecclesiastical separation, and entanglement with moral or doctrinal impurity (II Cor. 6:14-18; 7:1; II Tim. 3:1-5). We are non-charismatic in belief and practice (I Tim. 4:1,2; I Cor. 12:28,31; 13:8-10).

World Missions

WE BELIEVE the local church has been commanded, "Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature." Through our missions' program, we purpose to pray for, send, and financially support missionaries of like faith to every continent and country in the world (Matt. 28:19,20; Mark 16:18; Acts 1:8; II Cor. 8:9).
